What do you dislike about network marketing?

question-mark

Today I read a random survey of active network marketers. They were asked the question, “What do you dislike about network marketing?” Most of the answers did not surprise me and a few were worth passing on.

Here they are:

I think the thing that puts me off about MLM (in general) is all the meetings. The best time I had with a product was when I was totally ignorant and just told people what the product did for me. People would ask me if I could pick some up for them when I ordered again and I grew a decent customer base and began to make money. The uplines tend to take the “fun” out of it.

I know that retailing isn’t the same as business building, but I hate the emphasis on recruiting. You know, before you even get into the door yourself they (upline) want lists and three-ways, etc. Can’t a person just get used to the retailing before we start bringing in others to train and teach?

The challenge between following the company’s success plan, and my own personal plan. They sometimes conflict, especially if it comes to recruiting for the business on the first call.

My philosophy for the last 24 years in Nu Skin has been one of inclusion.  As a leader it is important for me to support all of the ways in which my team members want to build a business.

The way to be a more supportive leader is to ask new distributors: What would you like to do first – recruit or create customers? Don’t pressure them to buy 5 kits and recruit if they want to build a customer base first. And don’t pressure them to turn every customer into a distributor. You’ll likely lose the customer as well.

Really, upline, do you care what they do to make money as long as they stay in Nu Skin? You’ll risk losing them because you pressure them too much and take the fun out of it.

So can you relate? Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Pretty much nails it, thanks. I am not making the big bucks but that may come in time. In the mean time I am making some cash for myself and my upline, and am comfortable with my progress. Thanks

Many people make the mistake of having the mentality if someone won't sign up on the 1000pt (or insert your companies top entry point) program, then they won't sign them as 'they are obviously not serious enough'. Well, not me!! I'll take anyone! This business is about building large networks of people all doing a little bit. The more duplicatable, the better. The cream always rises to the top anyway…

I think we need to ask the new business-oriented distributor what their goals are – how much money, how soon – plus how much time they want to put into it and then show them a few speeds or options. We can recommend the appropriate track that will get them to their goal. It's about them getting what they want, not us. Wealth principle: Help enough people get what they want and you will get what you want. Win-win.

oh yes, that´s right! the problem i have is, that your upline is interested in you as long as you try to recruit – from the time point on when you decide to let it run (because it IS difficult to reach 2000, not to talk about 3000, points each month on a apart time level), they disappeare………

Thanks for sharing, that's what I am thinking about lately.

I can totally relate to those 3 examples. My upline totally stopped all contact with me. I can only assume because I wasn't “serious enough” in her mind. It has been several months since I've heard from her. She didn't seem to understand that I couldn't consistently meet each month's QExec goals without a customer base, especially on a spare time basis. I'm still working at my business, though, but quite slowly, as I have other priorities.

I do believe that communication works in two ways, if your upline did not contact you, you should contact her/him … if you are a biz builder …
